It's Done!

I finally finished revising, editing, and proofreading my final paper. I'm really happy with my work. This entire process has been both nerve-wracking and rewarding. I think I've definitely become much better at paraphrasing during this semester. It's been really hard working on three different papers at one time but I have realized that with the skills I've developed during this class, I have written great papers for my other two classes. So I guess it was a blessing in disguise.

Outlines

  1. Your outline is really good! I'm also doing the Spanish Amer War and my outline looks so different from yours. I think its so interesting to see how people can write so differently on the same topic. My classmate Henfry is also writing on the war, and his paper is going to be very informative whereas my paper I'm arguing about how I think the U.S. sucks lol. I'd love to read your paper once it's done :-)

I've had a few group discussions with other students who are writing about the war. One wants to write about the whole war overall, giving different types of insight of it. The other wants to write all the negative things and views of what the United States did and why they are so bad. I'm gonna write about the positive things the United States and impact they had.

  1. Trust me, writing the paper in the method I chose is very hard! I realized after finishing my outline last week that my conclusion has to be convincing of my argument which means I have to do a little extra researching :-( I would love to read your paper once it's completed!

Almost there!

So I completed my first draft of my research paper and I have to say I'm proud of it. It took alot of hard work and dedication but I did it.
I have been revising and proofreading for the past few days now and I think I have it finally completed. I just had to do some extra paraphrasing and using my quotations in a more analytical way. I also forgot to put some web links on my work cited page. So I managed to (hopefully) fix it and it looks complete. I'm so relieved!

Computer Time

We finally got some extra time working in a computer lab this week. So far, I am about half way done with my paper. I am trying to make sure I put all the right quotations in the right place and I'm trying to make sure I cite everything appropriately. My biggest obstacle (besides citing and quoting correctly) is also making sure my timeline is accurate. I keep having to go back and re read everything to make sure it looks correct :-) I want to be done already!!

What Am I Writing?

I wanted to start writing my paper last night and I had a writer's block. I know all about the war now but I'm thinking I have to research and find more information. I especially have to find more current information about the relationship between the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Since I'm arguing my topic, I have to get more data about U.S. foreign policies, how they apply to the rest of the world, etc... As I review my outline I have the beginning and the middle portion of my paper, now I just have to make sure my conclusion is strong and applies to everything I wrote from the introduction. It's nerve racking.

Outline for Research Paper

I've started breaking down my outline to submit on Friday. Today's class actually really helped me to start creating my outline. I have done outlines in the past, but what was different this time around was actually going over the different types of outlines in class and also creating one right after our class discussion. It was easier because my thoughts were freshly apparent based on what all of the students were explaining about the different types of outlines. So, (with the help of my classmate Jordan :0) I figured out that I want to use the traditional style of outlining for my paper. Thanks Jordan!! Professor Salamat was very funny when I became apprehensive about having questions in my subtopic categories!! Thank you for showing me: no questions, just ideas :-)

Finding my last sources for my bibliography

I started researching to see if I can find my last sources. I have been reading many different books about Spain, the U.S. gaining access to the Caribbean island of PR, and the history of Europe and Spain during the 1800's. It's alot of information to pick and choose from. I have started doing the first steps of my annotated bibliography and I've so far experienced that the citing is actually easier than writing my short summary. I had a feeling that writing the short summaries would be difficult for me because I tend to write LONG summaries!!

My research proposal-How I'm Starting Out So Far

I started breaking down how I should write each paragraph for my proposal and so far I know how I'd like to begin. I am going to start by writing about how and why the war began. Then I will go into the sources I'm using and how I'm using them. I don't think it will be hard to find all of my research because there aren't really any roadblocks or insufficient information regarding war. It's history, so I know finding sources shouldn't be hard.

Beginning my blog research!!

I decided to write my research paper on the U.S and Spain. I guess it's called the Spanish American War or something like that. I picked this topic mostly because I'm Spanish and I have had a lot of schoolwork already on this time period. I guess I'm somewhat familiar with the topic so that should help. Starting tonight and throughout the weekend I'll search for sources and see what I come up with. I love seeing the enthusiasm of my Professor because I'm certainly lacking in that department :-) I will try my hardest to create a good sources folder. There has to be tons of stuff out there because the topic is history, and who doesn't love history?
